The Basset Artésien Normand is a medium sized dog with a large head, drooping ears, a curled tail, and a rough coat. Its size is typically 20 to 36 cm tall, weighing 8 to 20 kg, depending on age and sex. It is a loving, easy to keep, intelligent, and fun dog. It has a tendency to be very protective of those it loves, making it an excellent pet for families with children. It is a resilient breed, able to adapt to any situation, from living in a spacious home, to living with owners who are away from home a lot. They are excellent hunting companions, highly resilient, and with a keen sense of smell. They are great for physical exercises such as walking and running. They are very intelligent and seize the opportunity to learn. They are very loyal to their owners, and with proper training, can make for very good and obedient pets.
