The Kooikerhondje is a small, active, short-haired and silky breed. They are a very intelligent and affectionate companion breed, often called the "duck-luring" dog because they were used to draw ducks into the canal to be hunted. They are very loyal and love being close to their loved ones. They are also excellent guard dogs, as they stay alert to the presence of strangers and even bark to warn of potential danger.12 - 15
